This position contributes to the care of patients in the medicine program which consists of 14 units and includes the following services, General Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Gastroenteroloy, Nephrology, Pulmonary, Heamtology and Geriatrics/Neurology. The program ulizes a collaborative care model (COACT) for patient care and Connect Care by Epic for the patient's electronic medical record. The program has a team of Clinical Nurse Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialist to support new hire orientation, training in specialized areas and ongoing professional development and initatives. We strive to utlize evidence based practice and quality improvement initiatives to improve patient and family experiences and outcomes. "

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of Post-Secondary Unit Clerk Training course with medical terminology required. Two or Three years of recent acute care experience required. Proficiency with medical terminology and strong computer and typing skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office, excel database, and Connect Care required. Must be able to push/pull/lift 50lbs and work in awkward positions. Strong computer skills required. Professional behavior and excellent interpersonal skills are required when working with the public in this position. Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize workload, ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and ability to adapt quickly are desirable qualities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must be able to work effectively in a complex, busy, noisy clinic environment and complete tasks while dealing with multiple interruptions and competing priorities. General Internal Medicine provides Family Centered Care, and it is expected that all employees support this model of Care.
