Your Opportunity:
The SHC is more than just a hospital. It is a campus environment and includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus also includes a YMCA and retail services. Unit 68 is a 36 Bed Medical/Surgical Unit that provides care to both General Medical and General Surgical patients. Working under the general supervision of the Manager/Unit Manager and the Nurse Clinician, the Unit Clerk is primarily responsible for: Processing and ensuring the completion of physician’s orders for a wide variety of tests and procedures related to patient care on Unit 68. Prepares and maintains health records and other documentation related to the patient stay. Reception - the Unit Clerk serves as the point of first contact in matters concerning the efficient administration of the Unit. Nursing and others rely on the Unit Clerk’s knowledge of specific patient transactions and overall Unit operations. Communication of information - the Unit Clerk plays a key role in helping to foster a team environment by facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients, and families and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Providing a variety of clerical support duties for the Unit.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Good working knowledge of medical terminology required. Experience with Connect Care required. Computer skills/experience required with a working knowledge Microsoft Office applications preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work with frequent interruptions, noise, and nearby distractions. Must be able to work independently and accept accountability. Must be able to work in a stressful environment. Recent Acute Care Inpatient Unit Clerk experience required.
