The Directory Services Team Lead provides technical oversight and support for a complex Hybrid Active Directory environment with over 195,000 active users. This complex environment supports a variety of accounts composed of employees, physicians, community users, wholly owned subsidiaries, vendors, volunteers, etc. This technology architecture includes Active Directory on premises as well as Azure Cloud based Active Directory including all components offered by both platforms and mainly using Microsoft technology. The environment includes components from Microsoft like “Active Directory Federation System (ADFS)”, “Web Application Proxy (WAP)” and more. It also includes supporting tools like “Active Roles Server (ARS)”, “Change Auditor”, “Recovery Manager for Active Directory (RMAD)”, Privileged Access Management, Multi-Factor Authentication, Public Key Infrastructure and Tap & Go Technology. Key facets of the role include: To lead the “Directory Services Center of Expertise at AHS” which has a high degree of mission critical impact and complexity in this multi-faceted environment. Leading the Directory Services Team of technical professionals from strategy, architecture, best practices and operational support. Oversees the design aspects of the Directory Services architecture on a province wide basis to ensure the system are scaled and secured effectively to enable critical AHS and AH Corporate/Clinical applications and information.

Responsibilities: Managing (including workload, education, training, coaching and mentoring) a specialized team of 19 technical professionals whose role is designing, deploying and supporting all facets of Directory Services. Understanding current technology, security risk/threat management, market trends and what they mean to AHS, as well as knowledgeable of business needs of Alberta Health and other 3rd Party organizations connected to AHS. Manages issue escalations from technical team, communicates to Sr. Leadership the risk/impact of issues and resolution approaches. Leading Directory Services upgrades to align to industry compliance and best practices. Contributor to development and supporting business and technical strategies, standards and processes in working closely with AHS IT Architecture Services creating and promoting designs consistent with AHS standards to meet business needs. Major Incident/Problem Investigation Lead for Directory Services. Reviewing and developing plans (including financial) to drive forward business strategies through implementation plans and roadmaps. Reviewing and approving ITIL compliant Change Management change requests and tasks. Reviewing technical implementation plans of operations and projects. Resolving technical issues and vendor management concerns. Involved in all RFPs that require Active Directory integration. Providing cost estimates, timelines and resources for project work. Negotiating contracts with vendors and managing deliverables.

Bachelor’s degree in information technology/computer science or equivalent education. 7-10 years of work-related experience in a large and complex IT environment. Experience with managing a team of technical professionals. Hands on experience with architecting/designing, planning, developing and deploying Hybrid Microsoft Directory Services and supporting tools. Hands on experience with Active Directory Domain Services / Azure EntraID. Experience with Authentication solutions including MFA, OATH, SAML, SSO and LDAP. Hands on experience with Microsoft Cloud technologies like Azure and AWS. Proficient Experience with Microsoft Cloud security products including Defender, Purview, and Sentinel. Proficient experience with standard LDAP based repositories. Hands on experience with scripting languages (including PowerShell). Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Must be proactive and able to work independently without supervision or guidance.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience with ITSM integration (ServiceNow would be of benefit). Experience with SIEM tools integration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Release and Change Management Processes, ITIL V3 Certification preferred. Knowledge of Identity Management and IGA systems would be an asset. Experience with Active Roles Server / GPOAdmin / Recovery Manager / Change Auditor / Safeguard would be an asset.
