Service Worker I
Your Opportunity:
PCU 22 is a fast paced 26 bed inpatient surgical unit providing care to ophthalmology, otolaryngology, urology, orthopedic and general surgery inpatients. The Service Worker is responsible for contributing to safe patient care and efficiency to units within the program and elsewhere as directed. The Service Worker is responsible for supply ordering and monitoring, preparing patient care supplies, properly maintaining, handling, and disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by unit staff in accordance with established Alberta Health Services’ standards and practices as well as handling/portering specimens throughout the Hospital. The Service Worker is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of equipment as well as restocking supplies and linen. The successful applicant will also support the Eye Clinic and be responsible for a variety of duties supporting healthcare staff in the procedure rooms and clinic by contributing to safe patient care and efficiency within the program. The Service Worker plays a key role in supporting clinic functions and patient care. The Service Worker will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to the Unit Manager and perform other duties as required.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment required. Position requires candidates to perform moderate to heavy work on a regular basis in order to ensure safe patient care and safety of unit staff. This job is physically demanding, the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, turning, and mobilizing patients as well as other physical tasks involving weight of 50lbs and greater. Excellent communication skills - fluency in speaking/reading/writing English. Ability to use computer. Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time. Reliable and cooperative, with demonstrated effective customer service skills. Experience in hospital setting.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with supply management and ordering is preferred.
