Your Opportunity:

Alberta Health Services - Technology Services has an exciting opportunity for a senior Unified Communications Solution Architect with extensive technical expertise in IP telephone systems, distributed call center solutions, video conferencing systems, integrated healthcare communication systems and desktop collaboration solutions to join the Technology Architecture & Solutions (TAS) Team. The TAS team is responsible for providing architecture and engineering services for a large complex multi-site and multi-vendor, representing all of AHS Technology services areas like End User Devices, Unified Communications Voice/Video, Network, Compute, Storage, Database, Identity & Access Management, Cloud, AI, Security technical controls and Facilities technology that foundationally supports clinical and corporate service delivery. This position is 7 years temporary project-based position but subject to transition to permanent. This position requires both in-depth technical and strategic thinking considering the complexity of AHS systems. Your previous experience at a large enterprise will enable us to design and implement complex solutions following industries’ best practices and deliver them in agile methodologies to meet our clients’ requirements. In this position you will engage with stakeholders which include senior leaders, service owners, developers, vendors, operational subject matter experts, and enterprise architects. The ability to develop professional relationships, perform complex problem solving, and communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) are required skillsets for this role.

Description:

The Unified Communication Solution Architect is responsible for: Assess current end to end capabilities, requirements, gaps and lead the development of strategies, frameworks, and roadmaps to meet future needs and align with industry’s best practices. Evaluate and recommend Unified Communications technologies and platforms. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (vendors, network, telecom, app dev, infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise Architects) to align unified communications systems designs with business and technical requirements. Produce system designs and specifications, overall architectures, topologies, and design documentation of unified communication technology, specify security and audit controls, assess associated risks and specify recovery routines and contingency procedures and translate logical designs into physical designs. Lead or facilitate projects & initiatives as an expert architect in areas like Avaya/Nortel telephone systems, Cisco IP Telephony solutions, SIP trucking, NEC telephone systems, MS Teams, Zoom, Tandberg and Polycom video conferencing equipment, Vocera, Nurse Call systems, Building Management system (BMS), Lighting controls, Elevator and Fire Alarm interfacing, Real time location solution, and multiple Call Centers to develop solutions based on best practices, industry, and AHS requirements and policies. Work closely with operational teams to understand their changes and challenges. Propose technical and business process solutions to increase efficiency. Explain difficult issues with multiple possible solutions and work to build consensus on preferred option. Respond to inquiries based on knowledge of AHS guidelines and policies. Understand IT strategies and explain implications to business. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Technology related degree or diploma preferred. Equivalent Education and work experience considered. 7+ years of experience in Unified Communications solution architecture and design in a large/complex enterprise IT environment. Demonstrate Expert level knowledge of Unified Communications technologies and best practices. Experience of architectural frameworks such as Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), TOGAF, etc. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Results-focused in a complex, diverse, and changing environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills and comfortably delivering presentations to executive level management internally and externally Progressive leadership experience with responsibility for leading highly technical staff and cross-functional or matrixed teams within large, complex mission-critical systems or the equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience with Avaya/Nortel telephone systems. Experience with Cisco IP Telephony solutions. Experience with NEC telephone systems. Experience with MS Teams, Zoom. Strong understanding of SIP, VoIP, video codecs, QoS, SBCs, and UC security principles. Familiarity with network design, firewall policies, and bandwidth planning for UC workloads. Experience with Tandberg and Polycom video conferencing equipment. Experience with Vocera. Experience with Nurse Call systems. Experience with Building management systems (BMS). Experience with Lighting controls, Elevator and Fire Alarm interfacing, Real time location service (RTLS). Experience with Integrated Call Centers. Cisco related certification. CISSP, CCSA, GIAC, GSE, CEH, CIW or CCSP certification and familiarity using frameworks and standards such as HIPAA, CIS, NIST, ISO, SOC. ITIL foundations certification with Enterprise IT experience using ITIL. Strong understanding of AWS, Azure, GCP and their related offerings in the domain.
