ALTA Paramedic Health seeks a leader to advocate for transformative change in the delivery of Indigenous healthcare. The Lead - Indigenous Relations, will advance healthcare standards, delivery, experiences and outcomes for Indigenous peoples across Alberta. As Lead - Indigenous Relations, you will provide strategic and operational leadership and expertise, building and maintaining strong relationships with Indigenous leadership, organizations, and communities throughout Alberta. This role will contribute to developing high-quality, accessible, and sustainable programs and services for Indigenous peoples, making recommendations based on experience working with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities and by leading practices in health service delivery, including for rural, remote and areas as well as programs and services for urban Indigenous communities. ALTA Paramedic Health manages all aspects of the province’s emergency health services system. Every year, more than 4,200 EHS-Alberta professionals support over 750,000 emergency and transfer calls, both on the ground and in the air. Description:
The Lead - Indigenous Relations provides expert advice and both strategic and operational leadership within ALTA Paramedic Health, developing, implementing and evaluating service delivery for Indigenous peoples. You will develop plans that strengthen relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities across the province and advise on provincial priorities, standards, processes, and procedures. As Lead, you will identify opportunities for improvement and direct the change management strategies required for successful implementation. Reporting to the Managing Director and Chief of ALTA Paramedic Health, the Lead is accountable for creating and executing strategic and operational plans that support patient‑focused care and reflect the short‑ and long‑term needs of Indigenous populations while ensuring effective budgetary and resource management. You will identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and process development through community engagement and change management, and collaborate with a wide variety of internal and external Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholders to ensure the strategies and initiatives undertaken strengthen Indigenous engagement, consultation, and collaboration, while fostering meaningful relationships across healthcare and public safety systems. Graduate of an Alberta College of Paramedics-approved program or similar Canadian paramedic program. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
The skills for this position could be attained through time, community knowledge (Elders, community engagement, etc.), experience, education or a combination of all of these. Experience as a Paramedic Practitioner (ACP/PCP) together with the organizational awareness of the role that ALTA Paramedic Health plays within the healthcare and public safety systems. High degree of cultural competence as it relates to working with Indigenous peoples and bridging with non-Indigenous people. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a respectful and collaborative manner, with a dedication to providing an excellent work culture for all team members. Proven ability to foster partnerships, establish and maintain strong working relationships, including all levels of ALTA Paramedic Health leadership and external stakeholders including First Nations and Metis communities, public agencies, and government. Understand the politically sensitive nature of working with multiple culturally diverse individuals and groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of Bachelor-level degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or a related field. Lived experience with Indigenous history & culture. Has broad knowledge of Indigenous cultures in Alberta; Saulteaux, Cree, Blackfoot, Dene, Metis, Nakoda. Ability to speak or understand any of the Indigenous languages spoken within the territories of Treaty 6, Treaty 7, Treaty 8 or the Metis Settlements of Alberta. Previous experience in a health care setting.
