Lead, Health Economics
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Cancer Research & Business Partnerships, the Health Economics Lead will be responsible for developing and overseeing a Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) health economics and value framework. After consultation with various key stakeholders including operational and clinical leaders, the framework should define target populations and sub-groups (i.e. tumour type, stage, line of therapy), incorporate data from clinical outcomes and patient experience, define and apply methodology for costing and resource use, establish baseline measures, and outline priority areas of work. This framework will be foundational to inform operational decision-making, assess new innovations/treatments, and provide recommendations to ensure consistent costings methods across cancer centres when appropriate.
Description:
This position will assess and identify existing health data required to ensure appropriate assessment and evaluation of proposed/existing CCA initiatives from a health economics and value perspective. They will also define any gaps in data required to support this work and develop a strategy to augment existing data to support comprehensive assessments and evaluations of cancer care. The position may also work with academic partners and other relevant stakeholders to help develop and refine novel approaches to support decision-making pertaining to adoption of new technologies or therapies or models of cancer care. This position will work closely with senior management, operational leaders, oncologists, clinicians, and other key stakeholders. Where necessary, external stakeholders may provide health economics guidance and mentorship. There is also an expectation this position will work closely with academic institutions to develop a mentorship pipeline which facilitate training of post-doctoral fellows and graduate students to gain real-world experience of using health economics approaches to support priority CCA initiatives.

Master's degree in a economics, health policy, and/or health-related field with a strong foundation in health economics, evaluation methodology, and cost assessment, equivalencies will be considered. Five years' experience working in health economics. Specialized expertise in health economics methodologies, with strong project management experience. Experience leading initiatives that incorporate healthcare costing and assess value for money. An understanding of key healthcare data that will be required in addition to health economics data. Knowledge and demonstrated application of systems thinking, change management and leadership strategies. Equally comfortable working and communicating with physicians, researchers, clinicians, and executives, delivering difficult messages and working toward collaborative resolution. Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders from diverse sectors including, but not limited to healthcare, post-secondary education, industry. Candidates must have strong verbal and written communication skills: able to listen, comprehend and clearly convey information in an accurate, clear and concise manner. Familiarity with the Alberta healthcare landscape.
Additional Required Qualifications:
High level skills in negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
A strong understanding of Cancer Care Alberta and its departments, policies, and processes.
