Your Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to join the Clinical Engineering Centre of Expertise (CoE) team with Alberta Health Services as the Lead, Safety & Asset Management. The CoE team provides oversight, compliance, and consulting support to front-line operations in Clinical Engineering departments across the province. Our mandate in the CoE is to guide the CE departments toward a set of common outcomes, ensuring patient and staff safety, and adherence to applicable legislation, regulations, standards and industry best-practices in healthcare technology management.

Description:

The Lead, Safety & Asset Management is a key leadership role in Capital Management and reports directly to the Director, Clinical Engineering Centre of Expertise. The Lead is responsible for medical equipment related incident investigations, regulatory reporting, consulting with legal services, and advising Clinical Engineering operations teams on medical device safety policy and procedures. The Lead is also responsible for coordinating medical equipment recalls for AHS, and partner healthcare service providers and agencies. Additionally, the Lead provides asset management leadership and coordination of recall effectiveness checks. The Lead also provides oversight for the Provincial Laser Safety program that provides medical laser inspections & audits across AHS to ensure compliance with legislation. This position is also responsible and accountable for making key decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the safety and standardization goals of the Clinical Engineering program. The Lead Safety & Asset Management will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in order to provide leadership to and oversee all the related job responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering program and registered (or eligible for registration) as a professional engineer in the province of Alberta, or a Biomedical Engineering Technologist with 10 years of healthcare experience. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. Leadership skills, including a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.


Additional Required Qualifications:

This position requires a high level of knowledge regarding clinical practices and procedures, and extensive knowledge of a wide range of biomedical equipment types and medical technology. This position requires strong interpersonal and communications skills, the ability to work independently with a virtual team spread around the province, and to be creative and gain consensus on sometimes difficult topics with a variety of stakeholders.


Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (p. Eng) registered with APEGA or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) registered with ASET. Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment is an asset. Valid Alberta Driver's License.
