CORe Lead – Laboratory Services
Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Operational Readiness (CORe) Lead to join our Digital Health Clinical Operations team. This pivotal role will support Laboratory Services across the province from a Digital Health perspective, contributing to the ongoing success of Connect Care—a transformative provincial electronic health record that has unified over 1300 systems to enhance patient care. This position offers flexibility in location within Alberta, and candidates from across the province are encouraged to apply. Some out-of-country travel may be required for training purposes.
Description:
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Clinical Operations Informatics Office, the Lab CORe Lead plays a critical leadership role in driving transformational change management within Laboratory Services. This position requires a deep understanding of lab operations, organizational change management, and digital health systems, particularly Beaker workflows within Connect Care. You will act as a consultant, advocate, and leader, collaborating with operational leaders, the Clinical Operations Informatics Office (COIO), Chief Medical Information Office (CMIO), and Chief Information Office (CIO) to ensure the sustainability, implementation, and optimization of digital lab workflows. You will lead and support transformational change initiatives across Laboratory Services. Collaborate with operational and digital health leaders to optimize lab workflows. Provide expert consultation on lab functionality within Connect Care. Influence change in areas without direct authority through strategic leadership. Support readiness, implementation, and sustainability efforts on-site as needed.

Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in organizational change management. At least 10 years of experience in laboratory operations or healthcare delivery in lab settings. Extensive knowledge of Beaker workflows and Connect Care functionality. Strong understanding of clinical practice, lab workflows, and AHS operations. Proven expertise in change management methodologies (e.g., PROSCI). Experience in project management and process improvement. Excellent communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills. Visionary thinker with a strong ability to creatively problem solve issues with critical thinking. Good working knowledge of clinical services, information technology and Digital Health systems. Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility in leading a team through uncertainty and ongoing change. Membership in good standing with a relevant professional organization (e.g., CARNA, HSAA, CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with executive leadership. Strong initiative and problem-solving skills aligned with the Digital Health roadmap. Willingness to travel and engage in stakeholder meetings at varied hours. High psychological and physical stamina to support demanding change initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical Diploma, Bachelor’s, or Master’s Degree in a health-related field. Certifications in leadership, change management, or project management. Experience preparing formal documents such as briefing notes and decision requests.
