Administrative Support III
Your Opportunity:
Working under the general supervision and guidance of the Supervisor, Switchboard and Patient Information, this position is responsible for telecommunication services in the facility; answers and directs incoming and outgoing calls, and emergency lines. Essential functions of the position: Answers all switchboard calls in a pleasant courteous manner. Transfers calls to appropriate person or department with accuracy. Utilizes the overhead paging system or text messaging system to disseminate information. Monitors fire panels and responds to audible alarms. Answers Emergency Code Phone and announces Emergency Response Codes via overhead paging. Provides updates to on-call schedules for various physicians and departments. Consistently ensures that protected health information remains private and confidential, according to the Health Information Act (HIA) and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP). Consistently follows Alberta Health Services Information Privacy and Information Security policies. Employs effective communication skills, promoting and adhering to excellent customer service in every interaction regardless of who it is with. Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Assigned duties will be a combination of above and may vary dependent upon site, role and shift. The UAH Switchboard handles approximately 15000 calls each week on average. The UAH Switchboard handles 370 emergency code calls each month on average. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Accurate typing speed of 40 wpm required and testing done prior to interview. Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) required. Minimum six (6) months recent switchboard experience in a large institution required. Demonstrated proficiency in the English language, both written and oral required. Must have excellent communication skills as there is a high degree of interaction with patients and a variety of disciplines at all levels of the organization. Ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment, including working under pressure, adapting and responding to changing priorities and meeting deadlines. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Able to work all shifts as operationally required. Ability to walk 0.50 kilometers within 7 minutes, as needed. Ability to walk 20 meters within 15 seconds to initiate a code response as needed. Frequent bending and reaching.
Preferred Qualifications:High School Diploma or recognized equivalent.
