Your Opportunity:

The role of the Professional Practice Lead (PPL), Respiratory Therapy, is to advance the professional practice of the Respiratory Therapy discipline to support excellence in patient and family centered health care. As the PPL you will align planning and policy development, service delivery and evaluation of the Respiratory Therapy Program at three large acute care facilities in Edmonton - the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH), Mazankowski Heart Institute and the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). Administratively the PPL position reports to the Manager of Respiratory Therapy for the UAH and Mazankowski, and has clinical practice reporting accountability to the Manager of Respiratory Therapy for the RAH. The PPL acts as a key resource for Respiratory and other clinical staff and physicians, as well as between the Respiratory Program and other clinical programs. You will also act as a resource to local leadership for evidence-based practices, professional standards and ethics, and legislative requirements for the profession. As the PPL you will use your influence to foster networks and coalitions among professionals in order to achieve goals and identify priorities in professional practice. In the PPL role you will lead quality improvement initiatives, program development, evaluation and knowledge translation based on patient, population, service sector and/or zone needs. Additionally, the PPL provides professional practice support to clinicians, and discipline-specific professional expertise to operational managers and directors to meet their needs such as emerging trends, scope of practice, staff mix, service models, service outcome targets and accreditation. You will also support the achievement of service sector or zone goals within AHS using practice-informed decision making processes.

As a Respiratory Therapist III - Clinical Practice Lead, you will be responsible for mentoring, promoting standards of practice, responding to clinical questions, and coordinating ongoing skill and student development within your team. You will collaborate with managers and supervisors in the provision and access to internal and external continuing education and professional development programs including certifications and upgrades.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated leadership experience in planning, leading change and evaluation. Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Minimum 5 years of acute care experience obtained within the last 7 years as a Respiratory Therapist.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge and engagement in the discipline related to best and leading practices, governance, legislation, ethics, current issues and trends. Demonstrated ability to guide and lead teams, build partnerships and foster effective relationships. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and address or resolve complex issues and practice concerns. Demonstrated ability to facilitate change within a complex health care environment.
