Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary has an exciting opportunity for you. The Molecular Pathology department, which consists of two integrated sub-specialties, Molecular Pathology and Molecular Hematology, provides complex molecular testing for a variety of inherited and acquired conditions as part of Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL). As a Medical Laboratory Technologist I supporting the Molecular Pathology laboratory at the Arthur Child, you will perform a variety of manual and automated procedures proficiently to produce accurate and timely results. Specialized techniques may include nucleic acid extraction and quantification, DNA sequencing, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time PCR, allelic discrimination, fragment analysis, and next generation sequencing (NGS). The successful candidate will be required to perform routine maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of various laboratory instruments. In addition, they will maintain legible and accurate records in a well-organized manner; enter and verify patient results as required; assist with training new employees, students and residents in Molecular Pathology techniques; participate in quality control activities; and be able to work with a high level of attention to detail in a challenging work environment. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Must have technical knowledge of a variety of molecular techniques, methodologies, instrumentation and software. Proven critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning, and decision-making skills. Proven effective time management and strong organizational skills are required. Proven communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to build and maintain relationships, facilitate teamwork, resolve conflict, and manage change. Proficient with Windows-based computer applications and databases, including Microsoft Office programs such as Excel. English fluency with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Two years of recent experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques. Experience with a variety of molecular analyses in a diagnostic molecular laboratory. Bachelor of Science or equivalent with undergraduate courses in molecular biology would be preferred. Experience with NGS processing and/or analysis is an asset. Coding or bioinformatic experience is an asset.
