Your Opportunity:

The Unit Manager (UM), Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) Day Surgery Unit/24-Hour Surgical Short Stay, Pre-Admission Clinic, and Women's Health Clinic, is accountable for providing operational leadership and oversight of daily activities, including the effective management of human, material, and financial resources. In partnership with the Patient Care Manager (PCM), the UM ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient and family centered care while supporting the vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives of Alberta Health Services.

Description:

The UM works as part of a collaborative leadership triad with the PCM and the UM of the RGH Ophthalmology Clinic to support aligned decision-making, operational excellence, and continuous service improvement across programs. Through shared leadership, the triad promotes effective communication, resource stewardship, and coordinated quality improvement and change management initiatives. The role also provides reciprocal leadership support and cross-coverage during periods of increased operational demand, planned leave, and unanticipated absences to ensure continuity of leadership and operational stability. The Day Surgery Unit/24-Hour Surgical Short Stay provides specialized pre and post-operative care for patients undergoing procedures in General Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic Surgery, and Urology. The Pre-Admission Clinic supports surgical readiness through patient assessment, education, care planning, and service coordination. The Women's Health Clinic and Procedure Rooms provide ambulatory gynecologic consultation, assessment, and procedural services, ensuring timely access to specialized care. The UM is accountable for unit-level operational and clinical decision-making and contributes to strategic and operational priorities across the Surgical Services portfolio. The role provides leadership in quality improvement, patient safety, service excellence, and change initiatives while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. The UM oversees staffing and workforce planning, clinical operations, recruitment, onboarding, performance development, and employee relations. The role also supports clinical supervision, team development, staff engagement, and the effective utilization of resources to achieve optimal patient, staff, and organizational outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a health-related field. Current professional registration in good standing. Minimum of five years’ leadership experience. Demonstrated pattern of ongoing professional and personal development. Completion of leadership development courses with evidence of continued growth. Proven leadership ability within a complex healthcare environment. Demonstrated proficiency in human resources management, including recruitment, retention, performance management, attendance management, staff development, and application of collective agreements. Ability to manage financial resources, including budget oversight and variance reporting. Strong computer proficiency. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills and a patient and family centered approach to care. Demonstrated ability to make decisions, coach and teach others, and inspire confidence within the team. Skilled in managing change, developing innovative solutions, and functioning effectively in dynamic situations. Ability to foster collaboration and build strong relationships within an interprofessional team. Strong critical thinking, analytical ability, and complex problem-solving skills. Self-directed, highly motivated, and able to work independently. Connect Care experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a health-related field. Quality Improvement Certification (AHS AIW, Green Belt or equivalent). Change Management Certification (PROSCI or equivalent). Leadership experience within an ambulatory clinic or surgical role. Experience and understanding of clinical workflows, diagnostic testing processes, and clinic scheduling systems. Knowledge of Surgical Services Information Systems and ambulatory booking and scheduling process(s).
