Unit Manager
Your Opportunity:
The Unit 58, 59, Vascular Clinic and Limb Preservation Clinic Unit Manager is a key leadership role accountable for excellence in patient and family centered care in the Surgery and Women’s Health portfolio at Peter Lougheed Centre. This position provides leadership and direction for clinical operations, quality improvement, patient safety and coordination of a best practice model in support of the vision, mission, and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities include planning, implementation, and evaluation in the effective use of physical, financial, and human resources to achieve unit-based goals while consistently adhering to established standards and policies. The manager is responsible for inspiring a positive and engaging environment with a climate of cooperation among stakeholders, interdisciplinary teams and between departments/sites. Other key responsibilities include daily operations, staff recruitment and retention, team building and professional development, quality improvement and innovations to meet the evolving complex care needs, partnering with key stakeholders including patients, fiscal and human resource management. To be successful in this role, you will possess an understanding of how patients and family are at the center of care strategies and strive to build inclusive environments that reflect the needs and supports required for the vulnerable vascular patient populations. You will possess excellent time management skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement utilizing an evidence-based approach when considering impacts to patients, families, staff, physicians, and volunteers. You’ll possess excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Description:
The Unit Manager position is responsible to promote and maintain a healthy work environment; demonstrate leadership skills with human resource functions including recruitment, coaching, clinical supervision, scheduling, performance appraisal and management within a multiple union environment; and establish and maintain excellent working relationships with physicians, other health care providers and program areas in support patient care and the vision, mission, values, and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The successful incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Consistently role models AHS values. Ability to balance multiple, competing demands and conflicting priorities. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, based on a framework of patient and family centred care, safety, and quality improvement. Effective facilitator of proven change management principles within teams, and ability to motivate others to achieve organizational goals. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Inter-professional and inter-personal conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Baccalaureate degree. Minimum of 3 years within the last 5 years of progressive leadership within healthcare/clinical care. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional and personal development, including completion of leadership development courses. Proven leadership ability in operational management, workforce planning, quality improvement, patient safety, and change management. Demonstrated proficiency in human resource management including recruitment, retention, employee engagement, performance management, attendance management, staff development, succession planning, and interpretation and application of collective agreements. Strong financial management skills including budget oversight, resource allocation, and variance management. Connect Care experience required. Excellent communication, organizational, relationship-building, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and foster collaborative interprofessional relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a health-related field. Quality Improvement Certification (AHS AIW, Green Belt, or equivalent). Change Management Certification (PROSCI or equivalent). Leadership experience within acute care surgical services and/or ambulatory specialty clinics. Experience leading quality improvement and patient safety initiatives within a complex healthcare environment.
