The Unit Manager is accountable for day-to-day clinical operations of the Intensive Care Unit and ensures the delivery of quality and safe patient care. The GPRH ICU/CCU, is an 18 bed unit that provides Critical Care services to patients from throughout the North Zone. The unit cares for critically ill patients from the medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecologic, and trauma programs, including specialized services such as hemodialysis for acute or chronic renal failure. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

The ICU/CCU is a complex clinical environment that has experienced significant growth and transformation. The successful candidate will be a resilient and emotionally intelligent leader with a proven ability to lead teams through sustained change, build trust and accountability, and address performance and conflict in a fair, consistent, and compassionate manner. This role requires a strong, visible presence and a commitment to fostering a respectful, high-performing culture focused on patient safety and staff wellbeing. The Unit Manager plays an integral role in the management, development and education of all front line staff and provides day-to-day frontline leadership, guidance and direction to the entire inter-disciplinary team. The Unit Manager is accountable for ensuring a safe working environment. Duties include the recruitment and management of human resources in a unionized environment, maintaining staffing levels, developing and monitoring of performance improvement measures, and implementing program, site, zonal and provincial initiatives in collaboration with other members of the inter-professional team. Some committee or working group involvement may be required. The Unit Manager acts as a leader of change on all quality improvement initiatives within the unit by actively participating in implementation as well as the daily promotion, auditing of performance and identification of barriers to implementation.

Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C).

Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BScN). Demonstrated ongoing education in health care and leadership. Critical Care experience.
