Your Opportunity:
Unit 46 is a Medical Teaching Unit (Internal Medicine) – a 48 bed, high volume inpatient unit that cares for a patient population that is highly complex. Under general supervision and direction from a registered nurse or manager, the Unit Clerk is required to provide clerical and receptionist services for a Patient Care Unit. The unit clerk is responsible to manage multiple demands at a time, use several computer programs for a wide variety of tasks, assist to manage paper and electronic records, and liaise with many inpatient departments and outpatient services. The unit clerk works very closely with the charge nurse to facilitate flow and complex discharges.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications:While maintaining a calm and pleasant attitude. Excellent communication skills with patients, visitor, medical staff, and hospital personnel. Well-developed organizational skills. Computer skills/course an asset. Experience with ESP, SCM, Clinibase, Phantim, Microsoft Word and Excel, Netcare, XT Login, I-transfer, e-facilities, and online purchasing programs is an asset. Telephone and receptionist skills preferred.
