Unit 49 is an acute medical cardiology unit that works within the CoAct collaborative care model. The Unit Clerk plays a vital role within the multidisciplinary team, and is responsible for managing the flow of information, while providing clinical support to members of the multidisciplinary team, continuing care centers and other medical facilities. The role of the Unit Clerk includes but is not limited to the following duties: · Ability to co-ordinate and schedule patient tests and treatment · Maintains patient records and charts · Routinely checks patient discharge documents for omissions and signatures and distributes admissions and discharge forms and charts to appropriate departments · Assists in the distribution/posting and filing of written information on the unit · Answers, transfers or relays messages on incoming calls · Performs other clerical functions (e.g. word processing and formatting, recording and transcribing nursing committee meeting minutes, preparing staff time sheets, updating room lists and requisitioning of office and patient care supplies)

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recognized Unit Clerk Certificate or training program required. Proficient computer skills using MS Office – Word and Excel. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, public and the multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to be self-directed and motivated and exercise independent decision making. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload in a fast paced environment. Exercises sound judgement and confidentiality when dealing with patient information. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal. Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' experience working in an acute care hospital setting in a medical cardiology unit preferred. Experience using Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM), Clinibase, I Request (Patient transport booking) and ESP preferred.
