Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk provides administrative and reception support within the healthcare clinic at the Calgary Correctional Centre. This role is key in coordinating communication among nursing staff, other healthcare disciplines, facility personnel, and community partners, while ensuring strict confidentiality of patient information. The Unit Clerk plays an essential role in supporting the smooth, efficient, and professional operation of the healthcare unit. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively and accurately communicate with patients, family members, unit staff, and other healthcare professionals. Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, is required. Fluency in English and a working knowledge of medical terminology are essential. Must be able to work effectively with frequent interruptions, function independently with minimal supervision, and demonstrate accountability. The ability to meet the physical demands of the position is also required.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent Correctional experience preferred. Working knowledge of Connect Care is an asset.
