Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a Recreation diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program. Experience in recreation programs for therapeutic recreation. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. Well-developed time management skills. Ability to handle the physical demands of the position. Provides a broad range of individual and group activities that are developed to meet the residents' needs under the guidance of the Recreation Therapist. Example-riding our wheelchair bike to take residents outside in nice weather. Assists residents in getting ready for community outings when off site. Works collaboratively with other staff, families, and volunteers. Assists residents with toileting and personal care as required when off site. Good knowledge of written and oral English. Experience working in a LTC setting. Experience with clients that have dementia. CPR Certification. Leadership skills to work with supervisor and provide supervision to Recreation Therapy Aides and residents as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recreation Therapy experience, with long term care experience preferred. Supportive Pathways or other dementia training is an asset.
