Henwood Treatment Centre is a 62-bed live-in treatment facility for individuals experiencing substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns. We are seeking a passionate and motivated Recreation Therapy Assistant to join our dynamic team in supporting individuals on their recovery journey. The Recreation Therapy Assistant will work collaboratively with our clinical and counseling staff to design, coordinate, and implement recreational programs that enhance physical, emotional, and social well-being, contributing to the holistic healing of our residents. Responsibilities include: Assist in planning and executing a diverse range of recreational activities, such as sports, art, music, outdoor adventures, and wellness sessions. Promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages engagement, teamwork, and a sense of community. Ensure the safety and well-being of residents during recreational activities, adhering to established safety guidelines and protocols. Maintain accurate documentation of residents' participation and progress in recreational programs. Support the development of life skills, coping mechanisms, and healthy leisure interests among residents. Foster an environment that encourages social interaction, positive relationships, and personal growth. Assist in organizing special events, outings, and workshops that align with the therapeutic goals of the centre. Collaborate with external organizations, volunteers, and partners to enhance the variety of recreational opportunities available. Please note that Henwood Treatment Centre is located in Northeast Edmonton and public transportation to the facility is limited. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Experience working with adults who have substance use concerns. Strong understanding of addiction and the recovery process. Experience running group activities. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Empathetic and patient, with the capacity to provide emotional support and encouragement. Physical requirements of the position include the ability to sit/stand and walk through a large centre as well as use stairs (there is no elevator access). Must be physically able to respond to behavioral/clinical emergency situations which may occur anywhere in the building.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience using Connect Care or other electronic medical record. Experience supporting recreation therapy programs in live-in treatment settings is an asset.
