The Speech-Language Pathology Department at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is committed to creating an engaging and psychologically safe workplace environment. With a large team of Speech-Language Pathologists and SLP Assistants, it is a great place for learning and growing professionally. This job posting is for a Therapy/SLP Assistant. The SLP team at the Glenrose values patient and family centered care and Communication Access. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in patient-related activities, such as direct patient therapy (either individual or group) with the supervision of SLP and stimuli preparation and patient assistance for Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies. Non patient-related tasks may include maintaining equipment, materials preparation, toy-cleaning, etc. The successful candidate must be able to wear appropriate lead shielding (approx. 15 lbs) for stretches of time up to 3 hours.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be able to wear appropriate lead shielding while helping in Diagnostic Imaging. Shielding is approximately 15lbs and assistant may need to wear it for up to 3 hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with adults with speech, language or communication disorders is an asset.
