Your Opportunity:

Come join the dynamic Calgary Rural Rehabilitation team! This Full-time opportunity will be based out of the Canmore General Hospital and will be focused on supporting Rehabilitation programming in the facility, as well as in the community. The Therapy Assistant provides rehab services within the Canmore hospital, supporting Acute Care, Long Term Care, and Home care services in Canmore and surrounding communities. The Therapy Assistant functions as an integral member of the inter-professional team. Canmore General Hospital has 21 Medical/ Surgical/ Obstetrics beds and 23 Long term care beds and provides outpatient physiotherapy services for Canmore and area. Under the guidance of the OT / PT / SLP the TA provides individual and group treatment interventions, supports the rehab team with the maintenance and ordering of rehab supplies and equipment, and participates in program planning and development. Travel to support home care clients is required. Applicants need to have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. Reporting to the Rural Allied Health Manager (Adults) the Therapy Assistant will work with our existing rehabilitation team to provide integrated rehabilitation services across the continuum of health services. In addition to performing your clinical roles you will be expected to foster effective relationships within the site and across our rehabilitation teams, and at time participate in quality improvement and program development initiatives within the Rural Calgary zone.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

BLS-HC certificate. At least 6 months experience (0.5 FTE or more) working as a TA in an acute care setting. Experience with equipment set-up (e.g. wheelchairs, walkers).

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working as a therapy assistant in a home care and/or long term care setting preferred. Previous experience working as a therapy assistant in a rural setting.
