Temperature Control Mechanic / HVAC
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the FM&E Manager and under limited supervision, the Temperature Control Mechanic (TCM) performs a variety of skilled, complex maintenance and repair duties. This requires use of schematics, blueprints and specifications while using precedence and judgment in determining work methods used in accordance with accepted codes, standards, regulations and procedures. Most duties will involve decisions on equipment operation, alteration, program modification or repairs, determination of cause of equipment breakdowns and resolving emergency or urgent requests for service. The TCM operates specialized equipment including complex building maintenance systems, tests equipment and is responsible for maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in accordance with Health Shared Services standards and practices. This position inspects and monitors all building mechanical systems and completes mechanical maintenance work to ensure proper equipment operation and reliability. Due to the diversity and extensive interdependence of the BMS and the HVAC systems, a wide range of training and experience is necessary to successfully carry out the duties of this position. Duties include system start up and testing for leaks using testing devices, repairing and replacing parts and components for entire refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation or heat pump systems. This position will be required to work at other hospital sites in the Edmonton Zone (including rural). These sites include Alberta Hospital Edmonton, Sturgeon Community Hospital, Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital, Strathcona Community Hospital / CASA, Northeast Community Health Centre, Leduc Community Hospital, Devon General Hospital, Westview Health Centre, Henwood Treatment Centre, Food Service Centre and Central Production North. Possibility of rotating shifts including weekends.

Completion of a post-secondary education in a related trade or technology program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Completion of post-secondary education in a related trade or technology program. Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) Technician Certificate required. May consider Electronic / Instrumentation Trade Certificate with relevant experience. Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in HVAC / BMS controls and building maintenance, preferably in a hospital setting. Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required. A good understanding and working experience with computers and computer applications such as computerized maintenance management systems, Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel. Basic understanding of knowledge of indoor air quality, HVAC system troubleshooting and ability to review drawings and specifications is required. Excellent problem-solving skills are required to successfully analyze and resolve system related problems. Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to complete repairs and installations with due consideration to patients, staff and visitors.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those who possess a 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate or higher. Building Environmental Systems Technology program (BEST) preferred. Journeyman Instrumentation ticket preferred. VFD Manufacturer Training is preferred. Refrigeration training and manufacturer specific training is preferred. Sound and vibration Training is preferred. Infection Control training is preferred. Air Quality Training is preferred. Air Filtration Training is preferred.
