Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Social Work Provincial Practice Director, the Social Worker III (SWII) plays a critical leadership role in advancing Social Work excellence. Grounded in values of respect, human dignity, relationship-centred practice, compassion, and collective well-being, the SWIII strengthens provincial practice through principled, values-based leadership and ethical integrity. The SWIII leads strategic initiatives that enhance practice consistency, and professional competency across the health system. The role applies reflective, system-orientated leadership to ensure alignment with legislation, professional standards, and organizational policy, supporting clinicians and leaders in delivering high-quality, safe, and evidence-informed care. Using project and change-management skills, the SWIII designs, implements, and evaluates initiatives that address priority practice and system needs. This requires strong critical thinking, environmental awareness, and the ability to translate complex polices and service pathways into clear, practical guidance that supports consistent practice across diverse settings. The SWIII provides expert consultation on complex clinical issues, demonstrating high professional integrity, advanced judgement, and the ability to influence effectively across teams. The role fosters collaborative, relationship-centred practice environments through strong communication, development of others, and cultivation of shared understanding. Success in this role requires the ability to build partnerships and work across organizational and cross-sector boundaries. The SWIII is highly self-directed, accountable and trusted to manage complex responsibilities independently. The SWIII exhibits dedication to the Social Work profession, exemplifying purpose, and commitment to advocacy, dignity, and meaningful impact.

Description:

As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Master of Social Work Degree. 10+years of experience in healthcare Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). In-depth understanding of the health system, how it serves vulnerable populations and gaps that exist within the system. Knowledge and experience applying project and change management principles and tools to diverse initiatives. The clinical practice component of this role includes advanced clinical practice consultations (including but not limited to clinical supervision of social workers (students or staff). At this time this does not include carrying a patient caseload. Experience and course work in clinical supervision is required.
