Social Worker III

Red Deer Remand Centre is a 140-bed facility that provides care to sentenced and remanded adult patients. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Social Worker III, performs screening and intake procedures, provides advanced and specialized interventions and treatments, completes psychological assessments in a wide variety of areas such as cognitive functioning, personality assessments, risk and behavioral assessments. The Social Worker III also provides discharge planning, case coordination, supervision to provisional social workers and/or social work students and liaise with public agencies. The Social Worker III collaborates as a member of a multi-disciplinary health services team. As a Social Worker III you will monitor and evaluate client safety, treatment progress and achievement of recovery goals as well as liaise with your colleagues to provide a range of services supporting mental well-being for individuals while in a correctional center and as they transition into the community. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Additional Required Qualifications:Approval from the ACSW to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or other restricted activities as outlined in the Health Professions Act (Alberta). Minimum 2 years' experience working in Addictions & Mental health- preferably in a correctional setting. Experience in complex care planning for vulnerable populations. Must demonstrate proficiency applying principles of the Mental Health Act. Required Leadership Skills: Team building skills, Leading quality improvement activities, Implementation of policy/procedure, mentorship and/or leading multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:Designated Capacity Assessor- OPGT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Assessment Certification, Training & Experience working with FASD, Grief and loss, ADHD, knowledgeable and experienced in navigating legislation within forensic settings.
