The Royal Alexandra Hospital is currently seeking a Social Worker II to join our team. Our state-of-the-art facility provides specialized treatment services to patients from Edmonton and across Northern Alberta. The Social Worker II will thrive within a supportive, interdisciplinary team dedicated to delivering safe, efficient, evidence-based, and patient and family-centered inpatient and outpatient care. The Social Worker II is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients, as well as the development, implementation, and evaluation of treatment programs in accordance with professional practice standards. Our team of passionate health care professionals is committed to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by illness or injury by providing comprehensive support and care from diagnosis, through treatment, and back to community reintegration. You will be joining a progressive team of Allied Health professionals, including Social Workers, Social Work Assistants, Housing Support Workers, Transition Coordinators, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and more, who collaborate continuously to provide exceptional care and mentorship opportunities. This is a full-time position. Based on operational requirements, shifts will be scheduled as (0800 - 1615), primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend coverage as needed. This role will primarily support the Medicine and Surgery units.
Description:
As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent acute care experience (within the past three years) in a hospital setting, preferably on a Medicine or Surgery unit. Strong skills in crisis intervention, comprehensive psychosocial assessment, and complex discharge planning. Proven ability to make timely decisions and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong clinical documentation abilities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Knowledge of Edmonton-area community resources and referral pathways. Familiarity with harm reduction approaches and experience supporting individuals experiencing houselessness, poverty, substance use, and mental health concerns. Commitment to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of one (1) year of recent acute care experience (within the past three years) in a hospital setting, on a Medicine or Surgery unit. Strong proficiency using hospital electronic medical record systems (e.g. Connect Care).
