Your Opportunity:

As an integral member of both the Awasisak Indigenous Health team and the Stollery Social Work team, the incumbent will collaborate within a multidisciplinary patient care team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to provide excellent, family centered social work services. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the psychosocial health needs of Indigenous patients and their families are met through appropriate case management, advocacy, and discharge planning activities as specified. The social worker will also act as an essential point of contact between families and health care providers in hospital and in community. Primary social work services will include psychosocial assessments, resource-based interventions, risk screening, supportive counselling, case management and coordination and transition planning. This position will include work to build bridges within the Stollery, Indigenous First Nations communities, Indigenous government and community organizations, Metis community health centers and agencies, and other social and health services within Central and Northern Alberta and/or Edmonton Zone. The position may include the facilitation of in-services Indigenous training session for staff, families and the community. The incumbent must be able to practice independently with a high degree of critical thinking, problem solving and ethical judgement, while also working effectively within their social work and interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient health outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Heart & Stroke Foundation – Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate; Diversity and Inclusion training; Indigenous Awareness training; Indigenous background; Knowledge of and respect for cultural perspectives within the Indigenous community including the range of preferred ceremonies and/or cultural practices; Experience building bridges with Indigenous First Nations and Metis communities, health centers and agencies in central to Northern Alberta; Skills in integrating cultural knowledge into practice; Expertise in NIHB, Jordan’s Principle and other government programs; Experience in working with and supporting post-partum families with newborns admitted to hospital; Experience with Child and Family Services; Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively; Proven leadership skills in managing and working in stressful, demanding, and changing conditions in crisis situations; Ability to work collaboratively as part of various multidisciplinary teams; Advocacy skills; Well-developed written and oral communication skills. As a bona fide occupational requirement and under Section 11 of the Alberta Human Rights Act, only Indigenous applicants will be considered.”

Preferred Qualifications:

At least one Indigenous language an asset. Experience in a quaternary pediatric center.
