Your Opportunity:

Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Supportive Care services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer. These professionals are leaders across the cancer care experience - from diagnosis to end of life care, on a foundation of world-class research. We are seeking a Social Worker (SW) passionate about cancer care to join our team at the Cross Cancer Institute/Edmonton General Continuing Care satellite location. Reporting to the Manager, SW is an integral member of the Psychosocial Oncology team, providing specialized support to cancer patients and their families. This role requires advanced skills in crisis intervention, particularly in managing cases involving suicidal ideation and self-harm. Key responsibilities include overseeing the daily MySymptom Report (MSR) for patients across Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) who report suicidal ideation, in collaboration with northern and southern counterparts. The Social Worker also screens and triages referrals, conducts both urgent and routine psychosocial assessments, delivers crisis intervention and short-term supportive counselling, and assists patients in accessing internal and external resources. Key Responsibilities: Initial Screening, triage of referral to Psychosocial Oncology Dept Monitor MSR provincially Patient prioritization, assessment, evaluation and intervention of suicide risk or other psychosocial needs Psychosocial navigation: link patient/families to appropriate services within and external to CCA Supportive and resource counselling Program development/evaluation: help CCA meet suicidal ideation accreditation standards Patient, family and staff education The caseload for all positions within Psychosocial Oncology may be subject to change based on operational considerations.

Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years’ post-degree medical Social Work experience. Heart & Stroke BLS- HCP Minimum 2 years’ experience in mental health support, suicide risk/crisis intervention (e.g. SPRAM, ASIST) Training and working experience in trauma-informed care, culturally safe practices, palliative care or working with patients facing life-limiting illnesses Experience in adult oncology, and/or palliative care in an adult healthcare setting Experience providing virtual care within the last two years Experience collaborating within interdisciplinary teams and navigating complex care systems Excellent clinical documentation, care planning, and patient advocacy Proficiency with Connect Care/EPIC Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

NVCI 5 years’ experience in adult oncology Understand impact of Indigenous people’s history, culture and reconciliation Knowledge and application of harm reduction/risk mitigation approaches Adult education/facilitation experience e.g. train-the-trainer models Familiarity with psychosocial oncology and cancer-related resources Proficiency using validated screening tools Familiarity with psychosocial oncology and cancer-related resources
