Your Opportunity:

The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre located in the vibrant community of Fort McMurray is seeking a compassionate and skilled Social Worker to join our team, supporting both pediatric and adult inpatients across all units. In this role, you will collaborate closely with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to address psychosocial needs, enhance coping strategies, and ensure safe, effective discharge planning. As a key member of the care team, you will also serve as a resource for nursing staff, offering guidance and support within your expertise and scope of practice. Your strengths in counselling, advocacy, and resource coordination will help patients and families as they navigate the challenges of hospitalization and recovery, while your knowledge of local community supports will be an asset in creating seamless transitions of care. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Northern Living Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS-HCP).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Connect Care and work within a hospital setting will be helpful in this role. Knowledge of and experience with guardianship, trusteeship and capacity assessment processes is an asset In-depth knowledge and experience in working with Income Security programs at community/provincial/federal levels (Alberta Works, AISH, CPP) is preferred. Non Violent Crisis Intervention training considered an asset.
