Your Opportunity:
The Information Security Management Security Operations Centre (SOC) provides cybersecurity services and assurance for the Alberta Provincial Healthcare System through monitoring, consulting, advisory support, and the delivery of direct cybersecurity services to programs across the enterprise. The Information Security Analyst SOC Tier 1 supports the organization by delivering technical cybersecurity services that identify, assess, and help mitigate risks across the Alberta Provincial Healthcare System. Working with leadership and IT teams throughout Health Shared Services, the analyst contributes to the protection of information assets and technology infrastructure. Description:
The SOC Tier 1 Analyst supports Senior Security Analysts and operational teams by monitoring and responding to cybersecurity events, operating and maintaining cybersecurity monitoring tools, and assisting in the implementation of cybersecurity controls and practices. The role also contributes to the identification, evaluation, and reporting of technical security risks related to software, hardware, and business processes, helping to strengthen the organization's overall security posture. The SOC Tier 1 Analyst’s primary duty is operational cybersecurity monitoring and incident response (Tier 1) by utilizing the established security tools such as the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR). The Analyst is also responsible to conduct some cybersecurity investigations to remediate risk. The SOC Analyst is a contributor to the Information Security Management documentation. This may involve assisting with documenting Decision Requests, Position papers, RFP documentation related to security advice, IT Security Standards, Security Policies and Security Architecture artifacts. The SOC Analyst has an integral role in the overall security of information security for the Alberta Provincial Healthcare System. It provides a strong link and co-work relationship to the Governance, Risk and Compliance, IT Access, Network Security, End User Experience and Platform Infrastructure teams.

Undergraduate degree and 1 year of relevant experience, or a 2-year college diploma and 2 years of relevant experience. Education or Working knowledge in two (2) or more of the following: Programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Go, Perl, Python, Bash, Javascript, Lua, PowerShell; Enterprise Firewall technology (e.g. Fortinet, PaloAlto, Checkpoint). Network security, infrastructure support, network protocols. Cloud application services. Interfacing with/managing databases (Relational and other). Capture the Flag (CTF). Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and/or Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system Certification(s) related to cyber security (SANS, CISSP, etc.) Experience developing/writing Incident Response Plans and Playbooks. Experience using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to assist in UEBA-type analysis.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience working in two (2) or more of the following: Working in a security operation center (SOC) on functions like security incident response, auditing using SIEM/EDR tools. Working in IT support or development (security, desktop, servers, network, or software). Working with command line tools like PowerShell, Bash, Python or CMD. Delivering training to end users on IT or IT Security. Working with IT Security policies and standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of directly related experience depending on scope and complexity of experience. Healthcare experience.
