Your Opportunity:
AHS has an exciting opportunity for a Rural Acute Care Manager at the Olds Hospital & Care Centre (OHCC), with responsibility for site management, clinical operations and programmatic leadership. You will support a dynamic healthcare team working in a rural community with a focus on the AHS Patient First & Our People strategies. The role is accountable for the delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family-focused care. Strong communication, change management, human resource and budget management, are essential to be successful in this role. As part of the Central Zone Acute Care leadership team, you will support and advance quality improvement, patient care, staff engagement through strong working relationships, and in collaboration with colleagues, staff, community agencies, and regional services. You will be responsible for recruitment & performance management of human resources in a unionized environment. Collaborating with the Facility Medical Director, with leadership and other local managers, you provide site, staff and program management through demonstrated consistency of practice; competence as a leader; commitment to the team; to the overall purpose and vision of the portfolio, and the organization. The OHCC is a rural, full service, Acute Care hospital with obstetrics, emergency, surgery, palliative and med/surg services. Hemodialysis, Lab & DI, Allied Health, and Continuing Care are also on site. Located conveniently just off the QEII proximity to Calgary & Red Deer, the OHCC serves as a key access point for surgical, obstetric, emergency and acute care needs. Olds is a growing, vibrant community close to the Rocky Mountains. It boasts a renown post-secondary academic institution that specializes in Ag-research. Many outdoor activities are within a short drive such as mountain-biking, hiking, kayaking, camping, rodeoing, etc.
Description:
The Rural Acute Manager is responsible for site management at the OHCC, and operational leadership of a robust surgical program and MDR. With a headcount of approximately 30 staff and an annual operating budget of $4 million in the portfolio, over 2200 surgical cases of Orthopedics, Urology and Gynecology and Obstetrics are completed annually at the site. Key areas of responsibility include: collaborating with managers from all departments and maintaining positive relationships with key community health care stakeholders such as the nearby Acute Care and Assisted Living sites, PCN local elected officials and foundations. The site manager facilitates site-based committees such as WH&S, EDM and site project work. In addition, this position informs and supports the implementation of local, zonal, and/or provincial initiatives within the Central Zone Rural Acute portfolio. It is expected that the manager will foster a culture of continuous quality improvement at the site to ensure high-quality healthcare through developing people, ongoing staff training and staying abreast of standards and advancements within healthcare. The manager is accountable to advocate and plan for the efficient procurement of equipment required for supporting the clinical teams. Additionally, the manager will ensure the appropriate allocation of fiscal and capital resources across the area of accountability, and reporting on the operating budget, including forecasting and monitoring in accordance with established AHS practices.

A post-secondary degree in a health profession, health administration, leadership or other comparable degree. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession, as appropriate. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional development (e.g. continuing education courses).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Progressive experience in a health care environment in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Uses strategic thinking, considering long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated effective problem solving. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to foster relationships across the organization to further the effectiveness of both the site(s) managed and programs contained within. Knowledge and understanding of Collective agreements and working with a unionized workforce. Discretion with sensitive situations, data and personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading healthcare teams & providing innovative solutions to complex system issues. Proven coaching skills to support team members to reach their full potential. Ability to work hard, have fun & contribute to a dynamic, successful healthcare team. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management role, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Strong knowledge of Rural Acute Care & Surgical Services & their corresponding complexities.
