Service Worker II
Your Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Service Worker II working within the Operating Room to support our staff and patients. It is a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail, strong work ethic and ability to work efficiently. Located in the community of Fort McMurray the Service Worker II is responsible for a variety of duties supporting healthcare staff in procedure rooms/theatres, including obtaining and preparing patient care supplies and disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by unit staff in accordance with established Alberta Health Services’ standards and practices. Work at this level is differentiated from the Service Worker I by the addition of cleaning/disinfecting instruments for immediate reuse and the setup/dismantling of patient care areas and OR theatres. The Service Worker II will help porter patients between different areas of the unit and hospital, transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, or ensure surgical rooms or nursing units are properly stocked with instruments, equipment, and other supplies to be ready for use, and perform safety checks on equipment. The Service Worker II shall exhibit good physical stamina, strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Medical Terminology Course or equivalent experience in a medical setting. Minimum basic computer skills. Be able to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:Active BLS certification. Previous experience in an Operating Room setting. Previous experience in a Warehouse setting. Completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing course.
