Your Opportunity:

The Parenteral & Enteral (P&E) Nutrition Program encompasses work with adults, throughout Southern Alberta, who have chronic medical conditions that require them to be tube fed or intravenously fed. The Service Worker is a dynamic team member who will assist all members of the health care team within the Home Nutrition and HPTP clinics. Under the supervision of the Unit Managers and Manager, and as a member of the health care team, the Service Worker contributes to the service for the patients by performing supportive activities that include, but are not limited to, the distribution of supplies as well as the maintenance and cleanliness of patient care equipment. Independently performs duties associated with the cleaning, transporting, distributing and storing of hospital and medical supplies and equipment in accordance with clearly prescribed work methods and procedures. Representative duties include the collection, maintaining, cleaning and redistribution of a variety of hospital equipment such as stretchers, IV poles, IV pumps, and bedside tables, and the organization, ordering, and movement of patient nutrition supplies such as formula. In addition, the Service Worker is responsible for replenishing linen and supplies in storage areas and transporting patients and or their supplies. This position is physically demanding (including but not limited to) standing for 6-8 hours per day, bending, lifting and pushing at least 40 pounds, twisting and walking. This job involves unloading and loading supply carts with boxes of formula and supplies.

Description:

As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 required. Recent Experience (within the last 3 years) in a health care environment required. Previous experience on inpatient/outpatient setting required. Detailed knowledge of medical supplies and equipment required. Written and verbal English language proficiency. Basic computer and word processing skills. Demonstrated ability to work as in a team setting. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Able to cope with frequent interruptions. Ability to prioritize workload to facilitate patient flow. Flexible and capable of working independently or with minimal supervision. Ability to receive direction and feedback from care providers. Presents self in a positive manner to patients, families, care providers and multidisciplinary team. Ability to assist patients with mobility problems, including assisting patients to sit, stand and reposition as needed. Ability to stand for prolonged periods and tolerate constant walking and bending is required. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, push 50 pounds carrying various supplies for the clinic and patients is required. Considerable walking long distances and standing is required. Ability to transport equipment, push supplies on carts and use of stairs is required. Must be able to frequently bend and lift/reach items is required. Ability to function in a team atmosphere is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with supply management and Oracle ordering. Previous experience as a Service Worker.
