Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Operating Room and working under the direct supervision of the charge nurse the Service Worker II supports surgical care of pediatric patients in a manner that is consistent with the principles of family centered care. The service worker transfers patients to and from the operating room; assists with perioperative care related to patient positioning and preparation; participates in theater changeovers including cleaning, disinfection, procurement and return of equipment, supply procurement, and case cart returns; restocks supplies; and assists with specimen care and performs other duties as required to support delivery of care. The Service Worker supports planned and emergent care, including the requirement to be available for on call assignment.

Description:

As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

BLS (Basic Life Support) is required within 3 months of hire and annual recertification is a condition of continuing employment. The position requires adaptability, accountability, reliability and fluency in verbal and written English. The role is physically and intellectually challenging – a strong work ethic and the ability to participate in teamwork are requirements for success.
