Service Worker I
Your Opportunity:
The Service Worker I is a key member of the Pediatric Trauma, Surgery and Child Kind team, reporting directly to the Inpatient Unit Manager supporting 4D and the Pediatric Surgery, ENT and Opthalmology Clinics. This position promotes safe, efficient, timely patient transport; maintains equipment and supply readiness; and sustains a clean, safe environment for high acuity trauma and surgical patients. Guided by the principles of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), Child Kind and Safest Together, the Service Worker I partners with patients and families—respecting perspectives, sharing clear timely information, supporting participation, and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, safe patient care experiences. The Service Worker performs all duties in alignment with policies and procedures of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and Stollery Children’s Hospital and upholds pediatric safety standards, infection prevention practices, and responsive communication in clinical settings.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Life Support - CPR for healthcare providers (BCLS HCP) and must be renewed annually. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Must be self-directed to identify tasks that support patient flow and meet operational needs. Must be able to meet all of the physical demands of the role including but not limited to long periods of standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting patients. Must be able to work with patients of varying sizes and degree of mobility.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous hospital and clinic experience an asset. Current or previous experience in pediatric ambulatory clinics preferred. Knowledge of hospital equipment and procedures preferred.
