Your Opportunity:

LES is a provincial team that is committed to providing supportive patient and resident care through timely and effective portering, cleaning and linen services. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and visitor experience. You possess strong customer service, teamwork, the ability to work alone, and prioritizing skills. The successful candidate also has a patient-first approach and is able to follow oral and written instructions. Motor coordination and hand-eye coordination are needed, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment which may be stressful at times. As this position requires a lot of walking and standing, it’s a perfect way to get your steps in, keep your cardio up, and keep in shape while greatly helping Albertans and your healthcare system!

Description:

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Physically able to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and AHS Security Screening required (per AHS policy). Ability to prioritize requests, exercise sound judgment, and manage time effectively. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including in high-pressure and emergency situations. Basic computer skills, including use of Outlook and the ability to operate rovers and printers. Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of hospital procedures and equipment. Previous hospital or Service Worker I (or related) experience considered an asset. Valid WHMIS certificate an asset. Basic computer skills, including email, reporting systems, and Connect Care. Training in Move Safe ergonomics and It’s Your Move client handling programs.
