Service Worker I
Your Opportunity:
The Service Worker I is an essential member of the Pediatric Trauma, Surgery and Child Kind team, reporting directly to the Inpatient Unit Manager and supporting both inpatient units and ambulatory clinics. This role contributes to safe, efficient, and timely patient transport; ensures equipment and supply readiness; and maintains a clean, safe environment that supports high acuity trauma and surgical workflows. Guided by the principles of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), the Service Worker I partners with patients and families—honoring their perspectives, sharing timely and accurate information, encouraging meaningful participation, and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary care team to deliver a high quality, safe patient care experience. The Service Worker performs all duties in accordance with the policies and procedures of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Life Support-CPR for healthcare providers (BCLS HCP) and must be renewed annually. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Must be self-directed to identify tasks that support patient flow and meet operational needs. Must be able to meet all of the physical demands of the role including but not limited to long periods of standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting patients. Must be able to work with patients of varying sizes and degree of mobility.
Preferred Qualifications:Pediatric hospital/clinic experience. Experience in acute care, trauma or surgical settings.
