Service Worker I
Your Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Service Worker I to work with the multidisciplinary Ophthalmology team at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Pediatric ENT, Ophthalmology and Surgery Clinics at the Stollery, the Service Worker in the Ophthalmology Clinic is an integral member of the Ophthalmology Team. The Service Worker ensures that specialized equipment used in the Ophthalmology Clinic is cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer and AHS infection prevention and control standards and collaborates with Environmental Services in cleaning and disinfecting various areas of the clinic environment. Other duties include setting up equipment in patient care areas, transporting patients and equipment, rooming patients and stocking supplies. The Service Worker is required to provide patients and families with a clean, comfortable and safe environment by utilizing judgment in the execution and prioritization of general housekeeping duties, linens, supplies, waste handling and maintaining patient confidentiality. This role will include other duties to assist with meeting patient care and the operational needs of the program while recognizing the value of and working within a Family Centered Care philosophy. The Service Worker works independently by prioritizing and making decisions regarding workflow as it relates to the scope of employment for the Service Worker. Under the guidance and supervision of the Unit Manager, this position will be cross trained to support all programs within the portfolio including ENT, Surgery Clinic and Inpatient Trauma and Surgery unit.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:BCLS-HCP certification required. Must demonstrate strong communication skills with the ability to follow directions and communicate clearly and effectively. Must be able to follow verbal & written instructions accurately. Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to perform heavy duties requiring pushing, pulling, lifting and working above the shoulder level. Must be adaptable and flexible to meet the changing needs and demands of patient care.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous hospital and clinic experience an asset. Current or previous experience in pediatric ambulatory clinics preferred Knowledge of hospital equipment and procedures preferred.
