Your Opportunity:

Alberta Health Services is looking to hire a Senior Project Manager to work in Fort McMurray. Preference will be given to candidates that live in or near the community. The Senior Project Manager provides expertise, leadership and oversight on assigned capital and operating building infrastructure projects at healthcare sites and is responsible for all project management, project life cycle, aspects, including development and initiation, planning & design, execution, monitoring and control and closing. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

The role is assigned a wide range of projects from minor to major capital projects and complex operational building infrastructure projects within Alberta Health Services (AHS). These projects vary in scope of work, diversity, complexity, and sensitivity requiring demonstrated project management expertise. Projects involve a range of functional integration, engagement with various stakeholders and knowledge of various construction disciplines. Executing these projects requires a comprehensive understanding of construction and project management concepts, methods and practices and integrating and aligning these with AHS organizational strategies, policies, and practices. The role is accountable for all financial interactions and ensures projects meet building codes, healthcare standards, and municipal bylaws within the 48 divisions of the Master Format for construction specifications. It directs and manages project resources through the lifecycle of the project to deliver and achieve the project’s objectives and established performance standards within a safe working environment. The role leads, mentors and directs all members of the Project Team and manages stakeholder engagement. Additional key accountabilities include managing integration, quality, and communication plans, mitigating risks, issues management, contract administration and full accountability for schedules, status reports, vendor procurement, building and operational commissioning, equipment installation, budget and expenses, cash flow forecasts and performance. The Senior Project Manager further provides expertise and support to the Program Manager on all aspects of project management including providing recommendations and advisement on the planning and development of projects.

Required Qualifications:

Education - 2-year post-secondary program. Bachelor Degree of Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design or Project Management (Building Construction) OR Diploma or certification in Architecture, Building or Engineering Technology OR Journeyman Trade Certificate. Additional Preferred Education: Management and Leadership courses. Technical and Project Management courses related to building infrastructure.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience, Skills and Competencies - 7 years of experience. Commercial or institutional construction project management experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Proven ability to manage, mentor, motivate and lead team members and stakeholders. Experience managing professional and unionized staff. Knowledge of construction and project management concepts, methods and practices. Knowledge of applicable provincial, regional, and municipal bylaws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of construction contract law and procurement rules, regulations, and requirements. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills including facilitation and presentation skills. Proven capacity to work well under pressure. Excellent analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated knowledge of computerized project management and engineering programs. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional software. Capacity to achieve organizational goals and project management objectives such as budgets, schedules, and service delivery requirements. Ability to read and interpret construction documentation and contracts. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, and project and program management.


Preferred Qualifications:

Hospital or healthcare facility construction planning and project management and facility management experience. Planning and project management of health care projects within a fully operating Acute Care facility. Experience working with and/or managing external consultants, contractors, government agencies and regulators. A member in good standing with the AAA, APEGGA, ASET or PMP designation associated in the Building Infrastructure Industry. Proven ability to foster partnerships.
