Senior Network Solution Architect
Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services - Technology Services has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Network and Security Solution Architect with an extensive technical expertise in routing, switching, datacenter, optical, and in Network Security technologies including Citrix NetScaler, Fortinet, and Checkpoint Firewalls to join the Technology Architecture & Solutions (TAS) Team. The TAS team is responsible for providing architecture and engineering services representing AHS IT Infrastructure including End User Devices, Unified Communications (Voice/Video), Network, Network Security, Compute, Storage, Identity and Access management and Facilities technology that foundationally supports clinical and corporate service delivery. We provide architecture for a complex multi-site, multi-vendor networking environment consisting primarily of Cisco, FortiGate, Checkpoint, Citrix NetScaler, RSA SecurID and Infoblox networking and security technologies. This position requires both an in-depth technical and strategic thinking considering the complexity of AHS Network and Security. Your previous experience at a service provider or large enterprise will enable us to design and implement complex projects following industries’ best practices and deliver them following agile methodologies to meet our client requirements. In this position you will engage with stakeholders which include senior leaders, service owners, developers, vendors, operational subject matter experts, and enterprise architects. The ability to develop professional relationships, perform complex problem solving, and communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) are required skillsets for this role.
Description:
Lead the development of network and network security strategies, frameworks, and roadmaps to meet future needs and align with industry best practices. Contribute to technology evaluations and vendor selection processes for network and security solutions. Assess current end to end capabilities, requirements, and gaps. Provide capacity analytical data to Projects, Operations, Cross functional IT teams and the business to assist with the development of IT solution. Produce system designs and specifications, overall architectures, topologies, and design documentation of networks and networking technology; specify security and audit controls; assess associated risks and specify recovery routines and contingency procedures; translate logical designs into physical designs. Lead or facilitate projects or initiatives. Participates as subject matter expert to provide input into solutions based on best practices, industry, and AHS requirements/policy. Monitor progress and due dates, escalate potential problems early and communicate them effectively to stakeholders. Assess security risk and vulnerability for business applications or IT installations, and provide direction on the implementation of physical, procedural, and technical security controls. Work closely with operational teams to understand their changes and challenges. Propose technical and business process solutions to increase efficiency. Explain difficult issues with multiple possible solutions and work to build consensus on preferred option. Respond to inquiries based on knowledge of AHS guidelines and policies. Understand IT strategies and explain implications to business. Work closely with other IT architects to coordinate solutions for customer. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members by staying updated with emerging technologies, security threats, and industry trends.

A minimum of a Technology related degree or diploma preferred. Equivalent Education and work experience considered. A minimum of 8 years of experience in Network and Security solution architecture and design in a large/complex enterprise IT environment. Expert level knowledge of Cisco routing and switching Experience of architectural frameworks such as Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), TOGAF, etc. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Result’s focused in a complex, diverse, and changing environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills and comfortable delivering presentations to executive level management internally and externally. Progressive leadership experience with responsibility for leading highly technical staff and cross-functional or matrixed teams within large, complex mission-critical systems or the equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience with RSA management. Experience with DWDM Optical transport. Experience with Infoblox IPAM. Experience with Citrix Netscaler Load Balancers. Experience with Fortinet or Checkpoint Firewalls. CISSP, CCSA, CCDE, GIAC, GSE, CEH, CIW or CCSP certification. Experience with software defined networking. Strong understanding of cloud-native networking and security (AWS, Azure, GCP). Regulatory and compliance experience using frameworks and standards such as HIPAA, CIS, NIST, ISO, SOC. Etc. ITIL foundations certification with Enterprise IT experience using ITIL.
