Your Opportunity:

The System Strategy & Clinical Excellence (SS&CE) portfolio within Alberta Health Services supports clinical operations in delivering high quality, safe, and sustainable care for Albertans. Within SS&CE, the Performance Reporting and Operational Review and Optimization Teams work with hospital sites and system partners to improve emergency department wait times, surgical access, patient flow, capacity, and overall system performance. This work may be done through various levels from provincial strategic initiatives to focused, site‑based improvement initiatives. The teams are seeking Senior Consultants to support the development and implementation of Performance Reporting Insights for Strategic Management (PRISM) program components and large-scale system strategies including Patient Focused Funding (PFF) and other provincial priority initiatives. These roles offer a unique opportunity to work closely with site leaders, physicians, and provincial partners to support implementation planning, knowledge sharing, educational opportunities, data and knowledge products development, and evidence‑informed improvement efforts aligned with AHS and provincial priorities. This positions are well suited to a professional with strong analytical, data interpretation and visualization expertise, data monitoring and reporting, along with project planning and engagement experience who thrives in complex environments and enjoys enabling collaboration across operational, financial, clinical, and corporate partners. As a provincial team, the position location is negotiable and may be eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to meaningful system improvement at a critical time for Alberta’s healthcare system.

Description:

The Senior Consultants (SC) play key roles within the System Strategy & Clinical Excellence portfolio, supporting system strategy, clinical excellence, and operational performance across Alberta Health Services. Reporting to the Executive Director, Performance Reporting and Operational Review or the Director of the Optimization Team, the SCs lead and support the development and implementation of Performance Reporting Insights for Strategic Management, implementation and reporting of priority initiatives including PFF. The SC plan and facilitate engagement sessions, guides complex and at times challenging discussions related to data insights and interpretations, align diverse perspectives, and support the development of financial analysis and validation, data products, analysis, and visualizations and action plans to drive improvement. The SC leads and supports strategic planning and implementation activities related to Patient Focused Funding and other priority initiatives, including project management, change management, corporate data analysis and reporting interpretation, and development of information resources to support adoption, monitoring and sustainment of PFF across AHS sites. The roles contribute to briefing materials, executive updates, and leadership discussions, and supports the Executive Director/Director in developing PFF implementation plans, engagement strategies, training and education materials, reporting products, interpreting data, analyzing trends, and producing analytic outputs which promote a better understanding of and improvement of health system outcomes. The position requires advanced system‑level thinking, strong judgment, exceptional ability to move strategy into action, and the ability to influence without authority in a fast‑paced and evolving healthcare environment.

Required Qualifications:

An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a finance, health, data, business, public administration, or related discipline, with education and experience relevant to the role. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience leading or supporting initiatives within a complex organization. Demonstrated, hands on experience facilitating discussions related to interpretation, usage, and development of finance and data analysis and translating to action with multidisciplinary groups, including clinical and senior leadership audiences. Experience guiding conversations in complex, high pressure environments and supporting alignment across diverse perspectives is required. Demonstrated experience working in or with healthcare systems or large public sector organizations. A clear pattern of professional and personal development. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong project management, facilitation and engagement skills, including the ability to align multiple stakeholders around data and analysis requirements for the organization, corridors, sites, programs, and units. Demonstrated strategic thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize diverse and sometimes competing inputs into clear, actionable recommendations aligned with organizational priorities. Proven experience supporting or implementing complex initiatives, including identifying risks, managing issues, and supporting execution. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing briefing materials, presentations, and updates for senior leadership. Demonstrated ability to build trust, manage relationships, and influence without formal authority. Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. High level of professionalism when managing sensitive or complex issues. Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., SAS), Connect Care data, Microsoft Office applications, including Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

A Master/ PhD degree in healthcare administration, business, epidemiology, data analysis, public policy or a related field. Experience designing solutions for hospital operations, patient flow, access, or system performance improvement initiatives. Experience working with site‑based improvement planning in acute care settings. Experience with Patient Focused Funding or performance improvement initiatives an asset.
