Respiratory Therapist III - Professional Practice Lead
Your Opportunity:
Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) provides an integrated system of health and personal support services to clients based on assessed needs across Home Living (Adult and Children’s), Supportive Living, Facility Living, and Palliative Care. Services are delivered in clients’ homes, community settings, and long-term care environments. The Respiratory Therapy Professional Practice Lead (PPL) is a specialized leadership role responsible for advancing clinical practice, supporting staff development, and promoting excellence in patient care across ALA programs. This position provides mentorship, clinical consultation, and professional leadership to Respiratory Therapy staff and interdisciplinary teams, supporting staff to practice to full scope. The PPL works collaboratively with managers, clinicians, and system partners to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-informed policies, procedures, and practice standards. The role includes responding to complex clinical questions, supporting competency development, and leading education initiatives. The PPL also contributes to quality improvement initiatives and provides leadership on program, zone, and provincial committees and working groups. This position plays a key role in fostering innovation, integrating research into practice, and supporting consistent, high-quality respiratory care across diverse care settings.

As a Respiratory Therapist III - Clinical Practice Lead, you will be responsible for mentoring, promoting standards of practice, responding to clinical questions, and coordinating ongoing skill and student development within your team. You will collaborate with managers and supervisors in the provision and access to internal and external continuing education and professional development programs including certifications and upgrades.

Active or eligible for registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Active registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA). Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) is required. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Minimum of five years of clinical Respiratory Therapy experience is required. Demonstrated experience within ALA, Continuing Care, or a comparable community-based healthcare setting is required. Strong leadership, facilitation, and change management skills are required, with the ability to influence interdisciplinary teams and support practice change. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to mentor staff, support clinical competency development, and facilitate education initiatives is required. Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are required, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required. Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
Preferred Qualifications:Three years of home care experience preferred. Certified Respiratory Educator and bachelor’s degree is preferred. LA or community-based care experience is an asset. Knowledge of ALA and community respiratory services with strong system navigation skills required. Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and autonomy required. Leadership, educator, or project experience preferred. Experience with research, case management, and systems such as Connect Care is an asset.
