Your Opportunity:

The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, renal, critical care, burns, emergency, transplant and trauma. As the RT III Clinical Educator your primary responsibilities will be to provide education and develop staff within the Respiratory Therapy Department. You will collaborate with other disciplines to develop and deliver continuous education and promote evidence-based practice. You will provide direct patient care in order to maintain competency and to understand the educational needs of the department. You will have a role in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, lead and/or participate in research projects, and develop training and educational modules/tools for new equipment/therapy and training requirements.

Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist III - Clinical Practice Lead, you will be responsible for mentoring, promoting standards of practice, responding to clinical questions, and coordinating ongoing skill and student development within your team. You will collaborate with managers and supervisors in the provision and access to internal and external continuing education and professional development programs including certifications and upgrades.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The incumbent must be a graduate of a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy, have successfully completed the CBRC exam and have current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta. Must have current BLS certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A minimum three years of current adult acute and critical care experience as a Respiratory Therapist is required. The successful candidate will possess the following: strong interpersonal, oral and written skills; strong organizational and planning skills; strong problem-solving, decision-making, collaboration skills and proven leadership skills. This self-directed individual will be flexible and adaptable and possess the ability to manage and facilitate changes within a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant Baccalaureate preparation, experience in providing adult education, previous educator background, CSRT registration. Previous experience in the development of evidence-based practice standards and the development and maintenance of quality assurance and quality control programs preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
