Using your specialized knowledge to support Albertans who are chronically ventilated in the community, your kind and professional nature provides them with the tools to have the highest quality of life. You will complete initial home ventilator setups, annual equipment preventative maintenance visits, and equipment exchanges due to failure. The ideal candidate enjoys changing environments as you will be required to support care needs in rural and suburban hospitals and collaborate with various health care professionals. In addition to the above requirements, other duties include supporting clients and stakeholders who require chronic ventilation and equipment training and clinical assistance. The RRT will provide on call support and telephone consultation to PIRS clients, caregivers, health care professionals and rural and suburban hospitals during business hours, evenings, and weekends. The RRT is responsible for the review of Seniors Health Special Needs Assistance Program Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) funding requests and providing clinical support for policy and eligibility criteria updates. Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Professional (BCLS-HCP) certification is required for this position. You must be physically capable of lifting, pushing and/or pulling a minimum of 4.5 kg. A minimum of five (5) years critical care or community experience, and current experience with home and acute care mechanical ventilators and their clinical application are essential. You must possess a high level of skill in the critical review of patient medical records as well as excellent case and workload management skills. This position requires an individual with strong independent and collaborative working skills and track record in establishing and maintaining effective, professional, and respectful working relationships with team members, leadership, and stakeholders. You are highly organized and very comfortable using Microsoft Suite programs and Adobe Acrobat. The successful candidate must have completed Ambulatory and Inpatient Connect Care ILTs and have a thorough understanding of Connect Care functions and navigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are strong assets. Previous or current experience with current home ventilators used by AHS, in facilities and in the community. Certification, participation, or experience in project management, change management, quality improvement, and working groups is preferred. Certification as a Respiratory Educator or other equivalent is preferred.
