Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services, with over 600 inpatient beds. It serves as the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan, and Southeastern British Columbia, and is a culturally diverse hospital that follows patient- and family-centered care principles. The Respiratory Services department supports ICU, ER, inpatient units, and a Level II NICU, and PLC is uniquely home to Alberta’s only Chronic Ventilation Program. Site respirologists specialize in areas such as pulmonary hypertension and neuromuscular diseases. Respiratory Therapist I staff actively participate in educating patients, students, staff, and physicians; contribute to process improvement; maintain professional accountability; advocate effectively for patients; and provide technical support for respiratory therapy equipment. All RRT positions are expected to work across all clinical areas as needed, with daily assignments adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet operational needs. Staff are also expected to demonstrate ongoing professional development, strong interpersonal and communication skills, critical thinking, the ability to manage competing priorities and make independent decisions, resolve conflicts effectively, and promote a healthy, respectful, and safe work environment.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Current BCLS-HCP certification is required, along with graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Applicants must have a minimum of one year of independent clinical respiratory therapy experience within the last three years in an acute care hospital setting. Consideration may also be given to graduates of a respiratory therapy program who have completed a final practicum in an acute care setting.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent acute care respiratory therapy experience is preferred, along with certified tobacco cessation training. Current NRP, PALS, and ACLS certifications are also preferred, as well as active or eligible membership with the CSRT. Additional valuable qualifications include Connect Care training, completion of preceptor training courses, and successful completion of PLC orientation.
