Respiratory Therapist I
Your Opportunity:
This is a core UAH Stollery Respiratory Therapy based position. The incumbent may be required to orientate to multiple Stollery sites (UAH, RAH and/or SCH) as needed operationally. The Stollery Children’s Hospital Respiratory Therapy program is a multi-site department, providing support to ambulatory, acute care, and critical care environments for pediatric and neonatal patients at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH), Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), and Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) sites. The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RRT I) works with the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality, patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. The Stollery Children’s Hospital is the primary acute care tertiary pediatric and neonatal hospital in the Edmonton area and the referral center in Western Canada for specialized services including cardiac surgery, solid organ transplantation, and ECLS program. The Stollery Respiratory Therapy program provides support to numerous specialty services including UAH: cardiac, surgical and non-surgical PICUs, cardiac/surgical NICU, inpatient wards with high acuity complex respiratory patient population, and emergency services; RAH: Level III nonsurgical NICU and high risk delivery room; SCH: Level II NICU; and specialty teams including ECMO, pediatric and neonatal transport teams. Working in a fast-paced environment, your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. You must demonstrate competency in all phases of the job, adaptability to new procedures and information, and remain up to date in respiratory therapy practice changes, policies and procedures.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy is required. Must be eligible to write or have passed the CBRC National Respiratory Certification Exam. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Excellent written and verbal communication and clinical documentation is required. Excellent organization, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Effective working independently and within a team environment. Able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. Highly motivated and positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:2-3 years recent critical care experience in a tertiary care teaching hospital with neonatal and pediatric experience. Currently orientated to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. CSRT membership. NRP/PALS. Ped/Neo transport team experience. ECLS team experience. Current participation in working groups or committees. CISM team member. Experience as a charge therapist. Precepting students. Development of quality initiatives. Implementation of practice changes.
