Your Opportunity:

This position will work with the Research Scientists from the Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research (CEPR) on their research studies. Current research is focused on understanding the causes of cancer, improving early detection and risk prediction, developing interventions targeted at modifiable lifestyle factors, accelerating implementation of research findings at a population level and enhancing knowledge translation through the development of clinical and population health guidelines. As part of a dynamic team, the Research II will have specific individual responsibilities for research projects in the Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research by providing support to activities related to obtaining research funding and conducting external peer-reviewed epidemiologic research studies. The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of research studies and will typically work on more than one concurrent task. Independent judgment and expertise will be essential in performing the job duties that include: Writing and preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Preparing written summaries of data analyses including figures and tables, as needed for scientific papers. Drafting research grant proposals for provincial, national and international funding competitions. Conducting background research, such as literature searches, critical appraisal and summary of literature and meta-analyses to support projects Assisting in the design of research studies including data collection methods. Assisting in the preparation of recruitment and data collection materials for research projects. Assisting with data verification and analyses of collected research study data. Assisting in preparing presentations for scientific conferences, webinars, workshops.

Description:

As a Research II, you will be responsible for coordinating research activities which generate and disseminate new knowledge that assists with advancing the understanding of health disciplines and various health and medical concerns. Working with the principal investigator, you will assist with the study design and development of research protocols, determine appropriate data collection methods and measurement procedures, interpret results, develop recommendations and coordinate study approvals. You will also contribute to grant submissions and budgeting, conduct literature reviews and environmental scans and provide day-to-day oversight of research studies/projects.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in a health or science related field. Registration with applicable professional association or college where required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a PhD or Master’s degree in Epidemiology or in Public Health with a focus in Epidemiology. A minimum of five years of post-degree research experience in the field of oncology within the past seven years. A proven track record of scientific writing is essential with a minimum of 30 peer-reviewed publications, at least ten as first or second author. Grant preparation experience is also required including conceptualization, design, literature review, and methodology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Performing statistical analyses using statistical packages would be beneficial.
