Your Opportunity:
The Senior Analyst position is accountable to support the data management and quality assurance (DMQA) team in the provincial division of Public Health Surveillance and Informatics. The position will work as part of a team that collects, analyzes, and interprets information concerning population and public health. The Senior analyst will support data quality efforts to support the provision of data and information in response to complex queries from clients across all levels of the organization. The Senior Analyst plays a key role in addressing both routine and ad hoc requests related to chronic diseases, injuries, communicable diseases, and emerging public health issues (such as outbreaks), and must have an in-depth understanding of a wide range of data related to public health. The Senior Analyst also provides advice, recommends and develops processes to ensure high quality data collection and validation. The Senior Analyst works with various data types and sources and is expected to support analytics that integrate data across multiple and complex data sources. The Senior Analyst is expected to perform analysis using a variety of tools (primarily, SQL and Python within Snowflake), including accessing large datasets on Oracle data servers, statistical software coding, and presenting data using visualization software (such as Tableau).
Description:
As a Research I, you will be working with research teams which are generating and disseminating new knowledge that assists with advancing the understanding of health disciplines and various health and medical concerns. Working under the guidance of the principal investigator, you will be responsible for preparing and submitting research documents, collecting and reviewing a variety of information related to the study, and monitoring study compliance. You will also assist with the recruitment of study participants and initiate consenting of study and/or trial participants and may complete lab work to support research activities.

Diploma or degree in a health or science related field. Registration with applicable professional association or college where required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Experience working with large data sets, relational databases and tools for querying, integrating, analyzing, interpreting, reporting and disseminating data. Proficiency in SQL for querying and managing data in relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server), with expertise in data quality assurance, validation, and integration across multiple sources. Proficiency with analytical tools such as Python, R and visualization tools such as Tableau. Minimum 2 years’ experience conducting data analysis in a healthcare or comparable setting. Working knowledge with Snowflake and Atlan considered an asset. Knowledge and ability to produce a variety of descriptive analytics. Strong English verbal and written communication skills to produce reports and communicate with staff/leadership across the organization. Ability to understand clinical issues, and to communicate effectively with a broad variety of people at different levels within the organization who have different skills and expertise. Must abide by the highest standards of confidentiality and have a sound understanding of the principles within Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as the Health Information Act. Preferred Qualifications:Undergraduate degree in computer science, statistics, or health sciences or a related field, with knowledge in Public Health, biostatistics, epidemiology or a related field. Experience using business tools such as MS Teams, SharePoint Online, MS Office.
