Your Opportunity:

As a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will be responsible for nursing assessment, mood and anxiety screening, suicide risk evaluation, group therapy, individual goal-setting and motivational interviewing to promote change, liaising with families and caregivers, discharge planning, and creating linkages to follow-up community programs with day patients in the Geriatric Psychiatry Day Hospital at the Glenrose. You will manage a caseload of up to10 patients from admission to discharge, working closely with the interdisciplinary team to provide coordinated psychiatric rehabilitation services. You will also plan and participate in educating families, students, and other providers and participate in program planning, development, and evaluation within the Day Hospital and within the Geriatric Psychiatry Service at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, while reflecting shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Psychiatric Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training. Completion of SPRAM and trauma-informed care modules. Documented training in one or more evidence-based therapies (e.g., CBT, DBT, SFT, IPT). Minimum 2 years working in a mental health program/unit. Minimum 5 years' experience working with adults or older adults with psychiatric issues, personality disorders, complex psychosocial issues, and/or cognitive impairment. Minimum 1 year experience facilitating psychoeducational and/or psychotherapeutic groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated proficiency conducting psychosocial interviews, completing screening assessments related to mood, anxiety, suicidality, and cognition. Experience with motivational interviewing and goal-focused care planning. Working knowledge of psychotropic medications, sleep, and pain medications. Familiarity with recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care models. Clinical experience in inpatient or outpatient geriatric psychiatry settings.
