Your Opportunity:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Nurse (RN/RPN) to join our Older Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. This role is vital in providing high-quality, patient-centered care to older adults dealing with psychiatric and behavioral health challenges. The candidate will have a strong background in mental health nursing, in depth knowledge of programs and services for older adults with mental health and psychosocial concerns, and a understanding of the unique needs of the older adult population. This role requires strong clinical judgment, and excellent communication As an RN/RPN in the Older Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinics, you are responsible for the comprehensive review and triage of referrals received by the clinic. Your duties include: Referral Management: Reviewing, entering and scanning incoming referrals into Connect Care. Triage & Coordination: Manage patient triage and respond to urgent concerns, coordinating with providers as necessary, redirect referrals as needed. Scheduling & Communication: Booking new patient assessments into physician schedules using Connect Care. Coordinating closely with Unit Clerks to maintain accurate and up-to-date physician calendars. Assisting with administrative duties, including covering for Unit Clerk absences when necessary. Contact patients/families directly to schedule assessments and provide information regarding their appointments. Patient/Family Interaction & Crisis Support: Engaging with patients/families by telephone, many of whom are experiencing active mental health symptoms. Providing crisis intervention support as needed and directing individuals to appropriate emergency mental health services. Assist with intakes, and patients in the START program as necessary.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Psychiatric Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(a)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 5 years’ experience working with adults or older adults with long-term psychiatric issues, personality disorders, complex psychosocial issues, and/or cognitive impairment. Minimum 1 year experience with psychiatric crisis management. Recent experience reviewing and triaging referrals to psychiatric programs. Recent experience scheduling patients for multiple providers in Connect Care. In-depth knowledge of community programs and services for older adults with mental health disorders. Working knowledge of the DSM-V, with a particular emphasis on mood, anxiety, psychotic, personality and neurocognitive disorders. Working knowledge of psychiatric medications commonly prescribed in Older Adult Psychiatry. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Connect Care documentation and letters. A holistic focus on older adult mental health promotion and relapse prevention. Completion of SPRAM modules. Completion of trauma-informed care modules.
